First week of TAFE...

On my first day, I wore my 3 inch heeled almond-toe black ankle boots to TAFE with a white shirt and my cropped sleeveless jacket. Just thought I'd dress it up a bit for the first day... which turned out to be more tiring than I expected. For our first class of drawing, I thought we were going to be sitting down and just not doing much, since we didn't even know what materials to get and etc. :/

But well, it turned out we were already gonna be drawing on our first day. Using Charcoal, and I was wearing white, which is a terrible combination because charcoal gets onto your hands easily, and just one touch and there'll be black spots all over if one is not careful. And We were using a tall easel, so we were standing for that hour ++. and lolol, Standing in those heels aren't exactly the most comfortable thing to be drawing in lolol...

Thank goodness that my white shirt stayed relatively clean, but I've learnt my lesson. No dressing up on Mondays. lol. Can't wait to get our lockers so that we can keep a change of clothes & other shoes. etc. just in case. lol

Second day, just going to more classes. and we went to Queens street to visit the sewing shop that Central TAFE was so closely affiliated with. And it's like Wow, a fieldtrip already on the first class! :D

And after that, we had a class which is the most boring class so far (Occupational health & safety, no duh) Then when we got out, we stumbled across this room where there were like huge hanging balloons. taking a closer look, we realised that the whole room was freakin' filled with it! :O

And they didn't mind having people coming in. Sooo, turns out it was a great way to pass an hour. Playing with Balloons! And I just couldn't help but wanting to dress up in them. once or twice was okay, but by the third time, they kinda told me off. :X Oh wells. It was SoOoO FUN & AMAZING!!! It felt like I was in the Land of Rainbow & Happiness~! (^_^)

But I got tired by the end, and my hands were icky with balloon residue. :S It's the kinda the smell and whatever dirt after having too much contact with the balloon's rubber, i guess. :/

Then went off to the next class which was Art History, and it was pretty quick, just an introduction to what the class is about, but not really much idea of what we have to do and didn't do anything at all. So class ended early, and most people left, but several stayed back to listen to the lecturer, Freda, tell us her experiences and insider information about the industry and what she has done. Which is really really interesting because she has worked mainly in the Australian film & TV industry, and telling us how she has mainly fitted and designed and sometimes being the art director for several tv shows. And she was involved with fitting the cast of Matrix 2 & 3, so she has met Keanu Reeves. *jaw drops*

Her experiences were definitely very insightful, so I'm definitely looking forward to hearing more from her. :D

The next day started off with Patternmaking, and our lecturer for this unit, Minee (i think?), she's like omg, amazing! she has spent the last 2.5 years working in the UK in the big fashion houses like Givenchy for example. And telling us about her feats (mainly because I asked and was interested, not because she was boastful, no, she's such a sweet personality and grateful for her luck, but you can tell that she's a very hard worker and so very humble.) Like how she's worked with clienteles and fitted for several celebrities, and handled so many high end fashions. handling a hundred thousand couture gown at one stage i think? Very very amazing stuff, she said that she had fitted Anne Hathaway, and Jude Law & got so close to him as to measure his crotch. *Gasps in excitement and envy* :P And she even got to have tea at Madonna's house (though she wasn't allowed to meet her).

Sooo Yesss... She has had AMAZING Adventures, and she's just worked SOOO Very Hard, and she brought along several of her creations, and they are sooo intricately made, very fine details, just high quality work. Beautiful personality indeed because she is an advocate of being nice in the industry, saying that there is no need for the cattiness and bitchiness that is so often present in the fashion industry. I agree with her. p.s. I hope it doesn't seem hypocritical, because even though I call myself a proud bitch, i'd like to think i'm naturally friendly to most people... unless they incredibly annoy me, cause i don't have an abundance of patience :X

Regardless, she was a 1998 graduate from that very TAFE, and is a proof of, if you're really dedicated and hardworking, and are wonderful to work with, you'll go very very far. Oh, and she'd have looooved to stay in the UK for longer, but her working visa expired. soo awww... that's one of the reasons why she couldn't get to work in McQueen because of work visa complications. They didn't want to take up her risks, i guess. :/

Soooo. Yeeessss... So far, The people are pretty friendly, and everyone is interesting, and there are quite interesting unique styles around. Definitely Such a Warm, Friendly Environment right now. Until the stress levels and competition kicks in, then I'll foresee the bitchiness coming along then... But apart from that, everyone seems really lovely right now! :D and I'm hoping that the friends I make here will be really nice! :D

Well, today will be the last day of the week, and I'm gonna have to be spending a considerable amount of money on art supplies and materials. Eeps :X

Until the Next Post,

JoeL Un... :D

But yes, I know it's just a week, and it's not necessarily the strongest indicator of the future weeks, but I'm really enjoying my time here, right now. And this is THE "Happiness" that I have not lived without for soooo loong... I miss being able to exercise my creativity. So Yay~! <3

Orientation Day at TAFE...

So, Friday was Orientation Day at TAFE... and I had wanted to arrive on time, but i ended up being 5 minutes late. I was really lucky too! :X

Then we gathered as our different "sides" as the Arts has 4 sections, graphic/visuals, fashion/textiles, jewellery, print (i think?). so hmm... Yes, and from there, we went off to being introduced to the workspaces that we'll be working in... which was pretty exciting! Definitely looks like Great workspaces that I could get used to! :D

Seriously, the whole time, I felt like it was going to high school again, and as though I'll be going to Art Class, EVERYDAY~! That felt really Fun and Exciting! :D

Oh, and probably among the 100-200 fashion people there, there were like less than 10 guys there including myself... lol, not really surprising, and pretty much 80~90% of them looked gay (including myself). one guy was wearing platform wedges (looks about 5~6 inches extra height), and he's taller than me without those platforms, sooo... he's a hot bitch... with an interesting style, wearing a huge statement jewellery necklace with a scarf over his head. not something i'd wear, but gotta admit he pulls it off so well. and i'm jealous that he can find such nice platform wedge boots that fit him. Makes me wish I had one. lolol

Apart from that, you can already look around and see there are so many different types of personalities around, I reckon it'll be pretty interesting! ;P

Oh, and so of course, they showed us samples of work that we'd probs be doing similarly to past students, and showing us what they had done, and it's like the lady presented us with 3 sooo amazingly detailed haute couture work, and she said that those were from students in their term 2 of Cert 4 (ie. first year), so it's like, OMG REALLY??? I"D BE ABLE TO MAKE THAT BY SECOND TERM??? or Maybe she said end of the year? Either Way, REALLY??? :O That'd be a DREAM Come TRUE~! :D

Eventually, it was lunch time when they were serving free sausage sizzles, and that's when i got to know people, met like 4 or 5 girls there. and soo... just making conversation. they eventually got onto the topic about driving, so this girl was saying how slow she is at getting her license. that she's still doing her logs. and i was like, well, i haven't even passed my driving test yet. lol. then I realised, and asked, "oh wait, how old are you?" and she revealed that she was born in 1994, and so were the rest of the girls i was with... and i'm like, d'oh. i'm so old. o_o""" and i revealed my age there. -_-"""

But yeah, was spending lunch time, just talking to all the 1994 girls. It's like, Yay~! After my commerce degree, and with IGA work, I've gained the confidence to make friendly conversation with strangers. :) Eventually, after lunch, we went back to the workshop area where we'd participate in a fun activity. and so, getting into groups of three, and within 30 minutes, it was using a3 paper which were printed out with various black&white designs, and just using pins and sticky tape, and making an outfit on one of their dressmaking mannequins.

It turned out pretty fun! and Oh so Exciting as everyone was coming up with different ideas. I surprisingly worked quite well with these 2 girls that I had just met over lunch! It was pretty amazing cause people would usually have clashes of ideas and styles, right? so it was really good that we were all building ideas on top of each other, and bouncing ideas off each other, which was really good without any clashes :D

Photos are on the TAFE's fashion facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150582494109628.409917.111424604627&type=1

I was also worried that it looked like I was copying parts of other people's outfits. I'm glad that our final product turned out to be quite a stand out from the rest. :P It's different because ours was the only one with a high collar, and more whites, instead of everyone who were texture clashing (which is probably the current trend right now).

Soo... Here's a photo of me with our group's production!

I actually probably didn't really like the two diamonds on the corset thing there, and the triangular tail thing was a great idea, though didn't look very nice there. if we had more time, probably could've made it work better?

Oh well, for newbies, I thought we did a pretty good job! :D Cause there were others who were obviously far more experienced, that they could make rosettes, and someone made a very beautiful statement piece onto their outfit, which was just fabulous! and of course, I'm Jealous! Hahahah. But i know that I'll get to that stage. It's just that most people would have had a head start by now, even before joining this course. :/

Okay, So after that, it was time to go home, and I was chatting with another woman who has had quite an interesting life. She didn't look too old, but she said that her kids are all grown up, and so she's just doing this course for fun, and see where this will lead her. Quite an interesting woman cause she's a fruit salad (having a mix of so many different bloods. hahah) and she's from England. Sooo. Yes, I'm sure I'll see her around in TAFE, even though we don't have the same schedules :/

After that, I went off home to nap and get ready for Charlene's Birthday which was Such a Fantastic Night! I had a great time, the music was great, and just dancing so gay-ly. hahahah Oh, and of course, catching up with everyone! It was a REALLY Great Night! :D

Wonderful Speeches, Fantastic Crowd, I'm sure Char had a night to remember forever~! :)

I'm sooo gay. HAhahah. But seriously, I was worrying so much about having nothing to wear. And Well, I managed to find that extra layer, and that shiny tie to make my outfit look different. So Yay! I had a Different Look, and Yet, I was still FABULOUS For the Night~! :D

Anywhooo, I'll probably end the post here, I have sooo much stuff to clean up and tidy. eeps >_<"""

Until the next post,
JoeL Un... =)

I can't WAIT For the First day of TAFE! :D
cause I've already met people who'll be in my class. hahah, and i'm sure i'll meet many more interesting personalities~! :D

***EDIT***
Sunday, Caught up with Michelle, and then went over to Charlene's place cause Alison and Kristin were already there, so that she can open the present from all 3 of us. and it was a SUCCESS~! :D I'm SoOoO Glad that she liked our present~! :D

Money well spent for someone so amazing!!! So Figuring that now I've got a New Life (somewhat), now that life-sucking Commerce is over, and that I'm actually pursuing something I've wanted since I was younger. I remember my mum asking Mr Ta (Year 10 TAGS science teacher) when she met him during the parent-teacher meeting thing, about my flexibility of options in pursuing fashion designing later... so you can't deny that my mom didn't already know how much i wanted to get into the designing pathway...

Thus, I'm promising myself that this year would be a Year of New Opportunities, New Pathways, Fresh Optimism, and Hopefully much, MUCH LESS Depression-fueled-by-massive-Self-Pity... lol...

So Here's Hoping to a Fun, Fabulous and Most Amazing Year~! After all, It WILL Be my 21st, and I'm really hoping that the 18th August would be a Most AWESOME Night~! :D [Still a bit sulky and pissed that I can't celebrate my 21st on my actual birthday which so luckily falls on a Saturday *sniff sniff*, >='( ]

But Anywhooo, so hopefully this blog will be constantly updated with more works and less emo rants. :)
Will probably update after my Orientation day on Friday. Can't wait to check out the workspace in Central TAFE~! :D

Cert IV in Fashion & Textile Design, I Can't WAIT~!
